Artefill in USA to see if PMMA will react ok w/ me? 11 years 6 months ago #1278331873

I\'m back combing through the PMMA threads religiously... I\'ve found a couple of guys who said they wanted to do sort of a \"patch test\" here (to test for any reaction) before going to mexico.I am considering having some filler already in my face - and I know a surgeon who will do it...but he will only inject it \"deep\" so it\'s on bone. I\'m not sure if that is as equivalent as I\'d like. (He\'s certainly not injecting my penis here). Is Dr. C injecting the equivalent of artefill? Isn\'t it a different vehicle than artefill? I just ask because a person can have an adverse reaction to the vehicle (gel / collagen base) than the PMMA itself. Also, the cost of just 0.8cc artefill is a LOT (like 600+)...so I\'m not sure how putting 15cc in the penis is possible without paying like $10,000 minimum. Is there any way to do some kind of test in the usa before going to mexico? Would it have to be done on a more superficial level? My derm won\'t inject Radiesse unless it\'s on bone (and this is a friend of mine from college) and this surgeon says artefill can\'t go superficial either. The plastic surgeon I mentioned this to was mortified I was even considering it. I don\'t think people understand how much peyronie\'s disease can totally ruin your life. The curve is almost meaningless...the size shrinkage has made me far more self conscious and upset/depressed over all this. i would literally do anything to get my old penis back.I wish there was some way to figure out if we\'d react negatively without learning the \"hard way\" - I do have a sensitive system to chemicals and stuff - allergies, migraines from household cleaners, etc... could be a bad mix.

You can have Dr C inject you with the exact same PMMA in a leg, arm, buttock and so on a small amount and see what happens. The cost will be very minimum...
that way you see the Dr and try his materials...

It can take years for a FBG to form, so how long will you have it in your arm before you decide it\'s safe? Also if you inject a tiny amount at a deeper level, would you even notice a reaction?

If you are talking about a general systemic reaction to PMMA, rather than a localized reaction confined to the area of injection, then personally I don\'t think that is a realistic possibility and not something to worry about.

Have you considered Dr Greenwald and Radiesse?

Thanks for the replies everyone.

Hoodle, my understanding is there are a few different kinds of reactions...the \"patch test\" idea would basically rule out the more immediate / allergic / hypersensitivity reaction (in theory - in some situations, a patch test causes a person to make antibodies right away...though artefill seems like it should be inert & not trigger immune response in the short term). Is an FBG a granuloma? I wasn\'t sure what that acronym meant. You\'re right, no test could tell you if that will happen down the road.

Also, yeah - what I was saying is that if I get it injected deeply (like on the jaw bone or in the temples) - it won\'t be a good comparison to the penile injections. But, if I have some immediate adverse reaction (there are some on RealSelf from artefill) then I would at least know before I put it in my penis. However, I guess I can\'t be 100% sure that it\'s going to be ok with me in the long run in the penis.

I wish there was some better way to figure out who is a good candidate and who is not. And by \"good candidate\" - I am talking immunologically (I have a small enough Dick to be a good candidate...). I\'d be thrilled if my immune system ignored the PMMA for the rest of my life - but with my luck (Peyronie\'s in the 30s) I am naturally pretty cautious. Also, Peyronie\'s has some mysterious etiology...it\'s though to be an overcompensation of healing for a wound...though I never had trauma. My body just went after my tunica for some unknown reason. (About half of patients do not have trauma.) So, I don\'t want to re-trigger that.

I hate how docs here are SO freaking negative about PMMA. They are completely close minded & show ZERO empathy for what Peyronie\'s has done to me...they won\'t even look into it. They think I should just be happy with a little stitch on the underside of my penis to bend the cuve back (restoring no size). I\'d love to see how they felt if 25-40% of their Dick size vanished in their 30s...with a curve and ED.

I lived with PD for 15 years bro. From 21 to 36 years of age (best years of your life to enjoy sex). Psychologically, it had a profound impact; leaving me in a dark place I care not to revisit. I feel for you and can readily empathize.

Thanks Miracle. Wow - in your 20s is even worse... you\'ve got me there. So, I was chatting w/ SkepticalOne who informed me of a few things I missed in my readings (which were not as religious as I thought - sorry about that). It can be hard to read a fairly info-heavy discussion board as a new person & figure out who did what to who...(those excel spreadsheets posted here are genius though).

So, (please correct me if I am wrong SkepticalOne) the PMMA Dr. C uses is cellulose based...different than Artefill here. So, potential allergy to the bovine collagen in Artefill wouldn\'t even be applicable to Dr. C\'s product. Also, as stated above, long term effects can\'t be tested with a patch test.

Based on other stuff I read, it sounds like 10% is a little less risky than 30% for a new user of PMMA.

I am at the point where I have to decide if the curve is bad enough to have it operated on before I do any filler. Once I do filler, I can\'t really \"go back\" and have xiaflex or even a simple plication surgery.

Ideally, I\'d like to have Juvederm Voluma (which is HA only) - after Peyronie\'s surgery. I will still have lost length - and JV isn\'t available here yet (and when it will be - the prices will be prohibitive to fill a penis with I suspect...though not sure about South of the border). In the face, some HA fillers tend to retain a bit of volume even after a year or so. People who have had Restylane in the tear trough seem to rarely need it after 3 or 4 times...unlike the nasolabial fold, which dissipates quickly. I have t find the one Korean study on HA filler in the penis...I can\'t recall if they reported on dissipation over time.

I think the idea may have some merit but if one is looking to see if they were going to have a reaction to something.... The face would be the last place I would choose!! My opinion only, and maybe you didn\'t intend on using your face as a test plot, but only used it as an example.
