so guys i\'ve got a bit of a problem come up and am looking for any help you can give me. any help at all.

i had a PMMA round on monday. yesterday and seemingly out of nowhere, half my fat-pad swelled up. it is the left-hand side from my perspective looking down. it is red and hurts maybe 2/10. it seems hard to the touch. it\'s been 24 hours.

what\'s going on? anyone had this before? can PMMA migrate there? is it more likely just latent trauma.

i rang suks minhas\' office and though i can\'t see him til the 12th, the kindly staff there had a look at the pics and advised i get on anti-biotics.

i\'m going to try and get a gp/Urology appointment today. oh fuck i hate going to see doctors who\'ve never seen anything like it before.

i\'m trying to consider it as latent trauma.

someone just suggested to me it could be an infection. i do feel a bit under-the-weather, and did from yesterday.

it\'s just that it\'s a bit hard to the touch that makes me fearful it\'s PMMA. does anyone know if swollen things can and do get hard to the touch when they\'re swollen?

Your GP can give you antibiotics. I too think it is infected, better safe than sorry!

No antibiotics, but some kind of creme is used at the entry point before wrapping. No idea what that cream was tough.

I think this is normal. My fat pad was super swollen and I am a very lean person. The only reason mine wasn\'t red like yours is I\'m dark(er). But it was painful to the touch at least a week post op.

* Edit, I\'m taking this back if Chester and Camph thinks it looks infected. My fat pad was indeed swollen though, I kinda was focusing on it and not your unit when I was looking at the pic. Don\'t mess around if it could be infected.

I find it astounding that Dr. N doesn\'t provide antibiotics post-procedure. That\'s definitely an infection, which requires antibiotics asap. Has anyone looked into her credentials to confirm that she\'s actually an M.D.?

I\'m a doctor. That\'s definitely an infection (cellulitis), in fact, that could be an abscess under the skin, especially if you let that go too long. You need to get seen/get on an antibiotic immediately. If that area of redness is hard, really increases chance there is an abscess under there in which case you may need an incision and drainage of that.

I hope that numbers lack of reply means he\'s in the hospital, I bet they kept him in.

Does Dr C sterilize the area before the op?

Dr N does not, which surprised me greatly.
