Here\'s another update from one guy who received email from Wake Forest just about 2 weeks ago

I am a Peyronie\'s disease sufferer and was wondering where your research is at in relation to this specific disease. From what I can gather from information online your regenerative medicine team do have a focus on penile tissue along with many others. Do you know if and when human trials will commence and whether it will assist Peyronie\'s disease sufferers.

We will be recruiting for a clinical trial in the near future using engineered corporal tissue to treat injured corporal tissue inclusive of some Peyronie\'s disease. The study will be recruiting in Winston-Salem, NC in the fall.

Hi buddies.. been years since I posted in here! I just grew bored with PE in general and have been focusing on other matters but do come back here once in a while to find out if there has been any progress on this tissue engineered penis thing. Evidently its going on at the trial stage so sooner or later it should come to light. If the FDA takes too long dont be surprised it starts elsewhere.

As someone who is inclined to believe in reincarnation (based on evidence of course), it seems to me this thing that we spend a good deal of energy on won\'t be an issue next time around, lol.

New update from Wake Forest

Thank you for contacting us regarding lab-grown penile tissue. We will be starting a clinical trial in the next few months for engineered corporal tissue mainly for men with Peyronie's Disease. This is a phase 1 study for safety. If the study goes well, we hope to be able to advance to a Phase 2 study, looking at incorporating more penile tissue and for other indications. Regards,

We are hoping to begin recruiting for the engineered corporal tissue study in May. The study will be for a corpora injury/deformity of 5 cm or less in length. There are 2 surgical procedures (a biopsy and then the implant) about 3-5 weeks apart, and follow-up visits at 1 week, 3 weeks, 6 months, 9 months and 1 year post-implant. When the engineered corpora is ready for implant we will have about 2 days to get the implant surgery scheduled. This is a phase 1 safety study. We have not performed this surgery before.

In 2014, Atala and his team created six human penises with the hope of gaining FDA approval for a transplant to humans. Scientists subjected the organs grown in the laboratory to thorough tests using a machine that stretches and squeezes them to make sure that they will withstand the daily load.

A group of scientists also set up machines to pump fluids to organs and lead to an erection. As of 2017, the transplantation of these organs to people has not yet received approval, but it is still ahead.

Me: \"I just saw this link: clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT03463239 and I have a question. Did you officially started human trials of lab-grown penile tissues?\"
Wake Forest secretary: \"No, we have not started yet. It's not really lab grown. We take a biopsy from a patient's penis and use the cells to coat a scaffold. This is implanted in the penis to replace the damaged segment of corpora. It is similar to corporalplasty\"

Me: \"If these trials will be successful, are you planning to advance to the more complex trials of full replacement of corpora cavernosa? Also, are you planning to start a clinical trials for penile enhancement procedures for patients with micropenis and similar diseases?\"
Wake Forest secretary: \"Yes, I think the long term goal is to replace the whole corpora. But first we must show safety in this trial. I do not know about future trials for penis enhancement.\"

Yeah, it\'s very valuable and interesting to discuss. But the main focus here, understandably, is guys who are looking at a solution at present, or within the next few years.

Lots of stuff going on in research though. Since studies on ellanse are somewhat small, I had been looking at studies that looked at just PCL in terms of biocompatibility and non-imunogenicity. PCL is approved by the FDA for other types of in-body medical devices, and has a long history of study, and more recently has interest in tissue engineering. This is one I recently found as being considered for tissue engineering of the tunica (like for cases of trauma, etc):
