TOPIC: Upcoming surgery

Upcoming surgery 1 month 3 weeks ago #1308722158

This doctor has been really good about setting expectations and has been really sympathetic. Dr Hudak at UT. Southwestern in Fort Worth has also been very upfront and sympathetic, so if anyone needs a penile reconstructive surgeon in the Fort Worth area, he’s trained by Dr. Morey, who is considered one of the best in this part of the country. He’s basically the same level as Dr Carney. I forget the connection, but I believe they had some similar training from the same program, etc..

Dr. Carney trained Dr. Morey. I'm glad we were able to get you in touch with him. Best of luck as you continue to heal.

Curious, was this covered by insurance or out of pocket?

I’m new around here, but I just wanted to say I believe things will work out. You’ve got a team of smart and capable people working on the problem, and with enough time, effort, and patience, you’ll get through it. It might take some resources and persistence, but if you stay positive and keep moving forward, the issue will eventually be resolved.

The trauma that was done created issues that required surgery. It was not cosmetic.

It’s still granulating well. We’re waiting for it to turn into what I call hamburger meat. I think at that point we’ll do the second surgery and just keep going until it fills in to the same level as the rest of it.
It’s still wrapped every day so I change it every other day. I’m really hating xeroform since it is just nasty and has an odor to it. But it’s keeping it moist and from sticking so I keep doing it as I’m told.
I guess this week is week five and he said 6 to 8 weeks before we could do the next one. I don’t think it’ll be ready next week.

The insurance covered the day surgery facility and the anesthesia. I paid the Dr out-of-pocket. The code that’s used for this is basically an office procedure code that pays a couple hundred bucks and that seem ridiculous and he wasn’t willing to do it for that and I don’t blame him. So his fee for me was $2000. Total it was about 3000.

I had the second surgery today. We may not need five because he really was pleased with how the first one looked and progressed and he was able to increase the size of the mesh/graft today.
It was a little traumatizing, though to see the anesthesiologist today was the same one from the January debacle where I was injured. I was already nervous, of course about a surgery, but because this is related to the botched surgery, then it’s more traumatic than usual.
I’m including pictures from the other day just to track for everybody what I went into this surgery with.
