I don't think it was to help with retratcion per se, but to try and soften the scar tissue, so that it could be stretched and make regaining length easier.

Both areas. I had to inject my self near the incision and I would then rub it to cause some of it to go down where the implant was. The Dr. should have given me more shots near the shaft to release more scar tissue, but he did not do that and hence there is some Peyronies curvature now...
