TOPIC: Dr Rosenthal - Belloderm one year later

Dr Rosenthal - Belloderm one year later 13 years 3 months ago #1269812890

I haven\'t been on this site before but was on the old one a few times, mostly I have not been following these forums, but I thought I would post a few pics before and a year later.

I had a combination surgery performed by Dr Rosenthal in August 2010. The primary issue which motivated me to have surgery was penile curvature which I have had since birth. At 49 and single for the first time in 20 years I thought it was time to deal with the issue. In addition I knew my Girth was below average.

My presurgery stats
EL 6.0\"
Girth 4.0-4.25 max

It was difficult for me, for alot of reasons....guilt mostly. I was 49 single, and christian so...I had a very difficult time rationalizing even considering it.

Anyway, after talking to Kingpin on the phone I decided to go through with it. I didn\'t have any complications following, every thing healed quickly and only initial discomfort.

After the first month I measured
EL 5.0\"
Girth 5.0-5.25

After 4 months I measured
EL 5.5\"
Girth 5.0?

I admit that likely the first measurement was likely due to swelling, can\'t say for sure.

Now after one year I measure
EL 6.0\"
Girth 4.75

So I regained lost length due to the curvature correction and .5-.75 in Girth (my presurgery measurement was max 4.25 but of the times I measured it was often 4.0...)

Dr Rosenthal told me that due to the curvature correction I would likely loose .5-1\". That is why I had the lig detachment, I wasn\'t unhappy with the length just the curvature and the Girth, so I thought maybe I would get the 1\" back, which I did.

I used the grip system for 3 months to get the 1\" in length back, and I think I could have gotten more, but I could feel the end of the belloderm and did not want that end of it to extend on the shaft of the penis so I stopped as soon as I got the 1\" back.

Initially I was disappointed for two reasons:
- First, I don\'t believe \"you can\'t tell\" to me it seems obvious, and I had issues with that, and the whole dating again thing.
- Second the right side of the implant is \"perfect\" in that it wraps around the bottom of the penis, and you can\'t feel the edge of the belloderm. The left side is not the same, it crosses over the side and forms something of a notch near the gland.......
- Third the \"turkey neck\" between the shaft and the gland was not something I was expecting.

Deal breaker?

Don\'t think so, I have to admit to looking at pictures of erections more in the last year then ever before LOL! I think it looks pretty good, even if is clear that surgery has been done.

The one effect I was not expecting was the Erection itself which prior to surgery and the curvature would curve up and off to one side. Now if I am sitting or lying down it lays flat agains my stomach which it never did before. Standing the angle is also better, 45(up)-90 degrees where before it kind of drooped.

I did loose some feeling there is a strip on the top of the shaft about .5\" wide and 2\" long which does not have full feeling, everwhere else is the same, and it has not had any performance effect.

Welcome to the forum Justave!

Sorry to hear your were born with congential curvature. It is most commonly caused by unequal growth/development of the corpora cavernosum. (The same way some women have a breast that is bigger than it\'s counterpart.) One side matures at a different rate; causing curvature. Few men are perfectly straight. Some deviation is expected and perfectly normal and does not inhibit intercourse. Thankfully, it doesn\'t appear to have caused you much grief. Don\'t ever feel ashamed of your body! God does understand and wants you to be happy. Welcome to PB\'s mate!

This can occur post Ligamentolysis.

Patchy sensory loss is common in Alloderm'/Belladerm' grafting procedures. It can take upwards of a year or longer for nerve regeneration to take place. In some cases, feeling never returns completely or is greatly diminished in certain areas.

Welcome to the site!

The loss of length - was that definitely due to the curvature correction? I\'ve heard some rumors that length can be lost as a result of cutting the ligs. I\'m considering this surgery and trying to get a clearer sense of the risks.

Hi ttar2380
The curvature (which in my case was from birth not scar tissue or perons) was due to the internal tissue being longer on one side then the other. The way it was correct in my case was to use internal permanent stiching which keeps the tissue more even. The Dr couldn\'t be sure that he could restrict it even (say one side vs the other) until he was in surgery. I was informed by Dr Rosenthal prior to the procedure that it would be .5-1.0\" depending on what he found internally and what was required during that procedure.

I have heard of \"retraction\" following the lig detachment, but I believe it to be temporary (correctable through the streaching process). Consider that there is only so much skin and when the Girth is increased it has to streach the skin to account for all the extra material. Thats my understanding, and once the skin is streached again to allow for the extra internal tissue so the penis can extend further.

What I was worried about, in having the lig detachment was that once detached it would not have.......\"leverage\"..... I thought that it could push back in during sex....but it doesn\'t work that way, atleast I don\'t detect and retraction during sex.

I have also heard that once done that the Erection would not stand at the same angle, which is possible depending on the angle prior to surgery. In my case the angle was actually improved, I think in part because of the curvature correction, strength of the Erection (liked it better) and because he made some additional tissue changes internally.

Loss of Girth and length post op.

I have seen some other posts about the issue of loss of length and Girth following the surgery.

I thought I would post some pics I took following surgery last August.
I took these at about one month, and although I don\'t have any Erect photos from that time the pics show that it was larger in circumference and shorter at that time, this is two months before using the grip system.

At the time of the photos, I could tell the belloderm was not yet bonded. The implant didn\'t yet feel like the rest of the tissue, still a little stiff, foriegn even. I believe I was still swollen from the surgery and possibly retaining some fluid. In my case, due to my flight schedule I only had the drain in for 1-1/2 days, perhaps not long enough.

Initially I measured 4.75ish Flaccid and 5.0- 5.25 (Girth) Erect.

By the time I began the streaching process it had already begun to \"settle down\" the implant began to feel more like my own tissue, and with it the Girth reducing. I don\'t believe this is any form of absorbtion, just a natural state when one has surgery that the body has to heal, excess fluids absorbed and swelling dissapate.

My final Girth is 4.75\" which is now in the average range and between .5-.75 increase, as expected.

As for length, I found I regain the 1\" very quickly about 1/8\" per week. But I also remembered that weight was more important than time (within dr recommend limits of course), as a result, I moved from low to higher weight fairly quickly, even though I didn\'t put in nearly the amount of time (hours per day) people had indicated I would have to spend doing it. Again I stopped at 1\" back to my original length.

I gained length from my curvature correction. Losing length IS optional and depends on the type of curvature correction and the s of the surgeon. Rosenthal shortens the long side to match the short side using Sutures (Nesbit procedure). He attempts to compensate for the shortening by performing Ligamentolysis and instructing the patient on stretching. This is the easiest method (requiring the least amount of s) to straighten the penis. It does not address penile narrowing (if present) only curvature. It also has a very high success rate but many are disappointed with length loss; thus the Ligamentolysis. I am a penile curvature expert.

Cool! as a stated \"penile curvature expert\" and therefore a recognized member of the medical community, what procedure do you recommend? Was it surgical or theutic? I had a friend many years ago who told me he had surgery and it took two years to be completely healed. I didn\'t ask what procedure he had, he did say the results were good.

@lastime
I had grafting utilizing geometrical principles (Egydio\'s technique). I have covered much of my experience in my Peyronie\'s thread here.

@Justave
My particular case of morbus peyronie required surgical intervention. At present, I am four months postoperative and will be completely healed at the six month mark. To gain perspective on how far I have come, please visit my progress thread. I\'ve regained my former length and Girth and have zero erectile issues (actually quite the contrary). I have two physicians in my family and took it upon myself to study peyronie\'s and other penile deformities over the course of 15 years. Needless to say, I\'ve learned quite a bit and have a better understanding than most urologists on the subject. Losing length was not an option for me; neither was living with the \"narrowing phenomenon\" that I suffered from. I am happy I had the operation and my only regret was that I couldn\'t afford to have it done sooner. I am married with three children and despite my best efforts to save, children are expensive. My kids also come first in my life. I lived with peyronie\'s for 15 years and consider it a miracle that my former glory is fully restored. I\'m happy to help others in any way I can.

Best Wishes,

Miracle7

Hey guys new to this forum. Well I wish I would\'ve found this board sooner. I\'m a former patient of Dr. Rosenthals. I had penis straightening (via plication) and widening with Alloderm with him back in 2005. To make a really long story short I eventually had to get the plication Sutures removed and and only have about 10% of the Girth gain (if that) from the Girth gains from the Alloderm left.

I contacted Dr. Rosenthal expressing my displeasure with the fact that I spent over 10K to have these issues addressed and have nothing to show for it. All he did was offer more surgery at full price. He was using Alloderm back in the day knowing that the results would not last as it shrinks and gets absorbed by the body significantly over the years. The Sutures from the plication were more bothersome than my slight curvature.

I don\'t trust this guy...

I actually have been looking into Belladerm these days. I starting not to like the look of PMMA and too many trips i feel comfortable with to achieve the size I want. And with all those visits it take, it wound up almost coming out to more because your paying for plane tickets also. So It\'s no longer the cheaper option it used to be in 2009. They\'ve got money hungry and results have halted.
