TOPIC: Temporary Fillers - Radiesse vs. Juvaderm Voluma

Temporary Fillers - Radiesse vs. Juvaderm Voluma 8 years 4 months ago #1292837478

For my first filler I prefer to get a temporary one to see how things will go in the long run.

I cannot decide however on which temporary filler is best for my needs.

I know temporary fillers are costly vs PMMA, however I\'d rather be safe than sorry, so price is not a issue.

Radiesse (Calcium Hydroxylapatite)

Pros
Can last up to one yearReversible (maybe)Cons
Cannot be used on glansSmall chance to develop scar tissue (leading to permanence)Does not feel as natural as HA
Juvederm Voluma (Hyaluronic Acid)

Unsure
Can last up to ???Can be used on glans ???Pros
Feels more natural
If anyone with knowledge on this matter can shed some information on these two fillers in terms of longevity and aesthetics, that would be really helpful.

Also, if there are other temporary fillers out there please mention them.

Dr. Casavantes is experienced with both of these fillers, if there are any other experienced providers with temporary fillers for Girth augmentation please list them here as well.

Dr. Oates,

If Radiesse is injected with a blunt tip cannula (like DermaSculpt) does that eliminate the concern around embolization?

Also, it seems to me that Radiesse is more like PMMA, in that it is particulate and will allow natural collagen ingrowth, whereas HA fillers are just blobs that are destined to move around as the penis moves... but that\'s just my theory on it. Also, Radiesse is in a suspension that does not dissolve for many months, unlike MetaCrill, whose carrier is gone in days. So, the suspension that Radiesse is in can get molded weirdly too, I suppose. I wonder how all of these non-MetaCrill patients keep their filler smooth when the carrier doesn\'t dissolve for so many days/months.

(PS - Anyone else can answer if you want - I just was initially replying to what he wrote.).

I was sitting in the doctor\'s office a couple of days ago, for a potential gynecomastia procedure, when I looked up and saw this image. Full boxes of Juvederm voluma and Radiesse, side by side. I was there all alone waiting for like 20 minutes. Oh the things that crossed my mind. :-)

Unfortunately, it is true. I just spoke with one of his assistants as I was going to have it done in the fall. She said there is another Dr. Who Dr. Gitt trained doing the procedure but the reason I was going to go with Gitt was because in the U.S. No doc has probably performed the procedure more than bjm. I could justify his cost by his experience.

I spoke directly to his staff today. Yes, shocking and unfortunate. She wouldn\'t give much details other than it was a surprise.

I had a procedure June 20 and was in the process of going back for more. The other surgeon there does the HA but isn\'t as experienced at Gitt was. Deciding on whether I should try him or not. Procedure with Gitt went well bit only 6 weeks out.

Can you please cite a credible source on this please? If it\'s true, that would be unfortunate & tragic. I can\'t seem to find anything yet confirming this claim.

I think the idea the Radiesse is \"reversible\" is in that it is temporary. HA, like Voluma, can be dissolved immediately with a medication called Hyalase. Anyone doing HA injections should have it available.

Radiesse is little Balls of calcium hydoxylapatite (very similar to bone). It can not be dissolved away. Maybe the result can be diminished by steroid injections. If it gets into a blood vessel then it can not be unblocked like HA can.

Hope that helps

I received a reply from Wade and he stated that they have Jevaderm Voluma available.

It still is temporary though right?

It\'s not reversible.

Voluma is temporary and reversible.

Maybe we can start a thread that lists all the Reputable Docs that provide filler procedures.

I\'ve met someone who has had Voluma for close to a year and it was still there.

Also I\'m not sure Dr C is very experienced with HA in the penis, or even if he really wants to use it.

Dr Greenwald in FL uses Radiesse.

Dr Gitt in AZ uses Cymterra and HA.

Dr Mirza and Dr Heller offer HA in NY.

I\'m assuming you only want names of US based Dr\'s.

Radiesse would be safer with a blunt cannula - but not 100% eliminate embolisim problems. There have been cases of blindness with fat using cannula in the face. But they do it very fast and rough too. So technique may play a part.

The way I inject HA it is even distributed in long tiny thread. I dont think Radiesse is such an advantage in that way. All stimulatory fillers that use a carrier that dissolves probably have the same issues that they could clump. Sculptra is polylactic acid that is just dissolved in water with is rapidly absorbed. That deposits the PLA in the tissue to stimulate collogen. It was one of the original products I considered. It may be great - if any doctor has used it I would love to hear. But they have techniques that place \"threads\" of it in the face that supposedly contract and lift. I did not want guys coming back saying the skin of their penis contracted and is now shorter. There have been report of shortening with PMMA. Maybe Sculptra is a great option, but not on my radar right now.

As Aleksk keeps saying, Ellanse is probably a big step forward from Radiesse. I have 1 small experience with it but will take it very slow here. There are both potential benefits and negatives. more soon.
