If you have some nodularity with HA does that mean you are more likely to form nodules with PMMA? Wondering if there is correlation

The answer is no. Having developed small lumps or nodules after Hyaluronic Acid (HA) filler does not mean you are more likely to develop nodules after Bellafill (PMMA), because the mechanisms are different.

With HA fillers, most lumps are caused by uneven filler distribution, or localized collections of filler during the healing process. Generally mechanical rather than inflammatory and often improve with massage, time, or, if needed, hyaluronidase.

With Bellafill (PMMA), nodules are uncommon and are typically related to the body's collagen and or inflammatory response around the PMMA microspheres rather than the filler itself collecting in one area. These are biologically different from HA lumps.

Because these are different processes, a history of lumps with HA does not, by itself, predict that you will develop nodules with Bellafill. Dr. S
