TOPIC: Day 10 HA Filler – Swelling & Tenderness Increased After Initial Improvement

Hi everyone,

I’m currently Day 10 after HA filler. Recovery was improving and I was very happy with the result, but after sex on Day 7 I’ve developed increased tenderness, warmth, and swelling, mostly on the left side near the Circumcision line where more product was placed.

I had a video call with the clinic and they believe it’s inflammation and recommended ibuprofen. My concern is that the area looks noticeably more swollen today than yesterday, especially the upper left portion, and there is a firmer spot underneath.

I have no fever, drainage, severe redness, or skin discoloration.

The first 3 photos are from tonight (Day 10) after being on my feet all day wearing fairly tight dress pants. The last 2 photos are from last night (Day 9).

Has anyone experienced a flare-up like this around Days 10–14 and then had it settle down? How long did it take, and did anything besides time and anti-inflammatories help?

@rigo2095 That is not normal. Between that and the gradual skin darkening from your photos, I would recommend seeking a Urologist who is familiar with girth enhancement complications as soon as possible. HA is "safer" than PMMA because it can be dissolved with hyaluronidase, but it is not without risks, especially when injected too deep and/or in too much volume.

Quick update: I saw a local Urologist today. His assessment was inflammatory edema/lymphatic swelling rather than a major complication. He started me on a Medrol taper and amoxicillin, and showed me a gentle compression technique to help drainage.

The doctor in Lima who performed the procedure has also been very responsive. Swelling was worse this morning, but after treatment and compression it feels somewhat softer and less tense. Still swollen, but I’m cautiously optimistic.

Quick update: I finished my steroid taper last Wednesday. By Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and even most of Saturday, everything looked and felt great. The swelling was gone, the filler was soft again, and I thought I was in the clear.

Saturday I did a leg workout, spent about 10 minutes in a hot sauna, then had a long drive to Miami. Saturday night I started noticing some mild warmth, itching, and firmness again. Today it’s about the same—not getting dramatically worse, but not improving either. Gentle compression seems to keep it from progressing.

Has anyone with HA (Hyaluronic Acid) penile filler experienced this pattern? Improvement while on steroids, several good days after stopping them, then a delayed flare-up?

Did it eventually settle on its own and your body accepted the filler, or did you need another round of treatment? I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who’s been through something similar. I am at day 20 of the application btw.

No good so far. It’s been 7 weeks, and I’m finishing my third (and hopefully last) round of prednisone. Next week I’m scheduled to dissolve the filler with hyaluronidase. I was really hoping to save it, or at least just dissolve the left side, but every time I stop prednisone my body seems to harden more of the filler. I also did 21 days of antibiotics with no improvement, so my doctor doesn’t think it’s an infection anymore.

I’m pretty disappointed because I actually loved the results. The filler was very evenly placed, and the increase in Girth was definitely noticeable for both me and my partner.

Has anyone dealt with something similar or found another solution before dissolving everything? I’d really like to avoid more steroids or antibiotics, but at this point I feel like there’s a 98% chance I’ll have to dissolve it all next week. Any advice or similar experiences would be appreciated.

@rigo2095 are you certain that what was injected was HA? Did you get medical records, the lot # and traceability for the product they used?

Thanks for the advice. My doctor actually tried a small amount of hyaluronidase about 2 weeks ago on one hard spot behind the left side of the shaft, and that area responded really well. The problem is the upper left side kept getting harder and now feels like a cord or capsule, and I’m also starting to get another small hard Nodule on the bottom. I’ve done 3 rounds of prednisone and 21 days of antibiotics, and every time I stop the prednisone my body seems to start hardening the filler again, so my doctor doesn’t think it’s an infection anymore.

At this point she’s recommending dissolving all of it next week, which honestly sucks because I really liked the results. After that she wants to let everything heal for 4–6 weeks and then do PRP/P-Shot to help the tissue recover.

She also mentioned possibly trying Radiesse in the future, but only after everything has healed and probably just in a very small area first to see how my body reacts before doing anything more. Not sure if I’ll even go that route after this experience.

Has anyone here gone through something similar or found another solution before dissolving everything? I’d really appreciate hearing your experience.

I had some swelling like that and urowrap really helped compress it and reduce the swelling . I would give it a try . Also Radiesse would be a bad idea if your body rejects HA. Just my $.02

Did your swelling ever got hard like nodules or just swelling. And how far after the filler was applied? HA? Right now i am just on 5mg of prednisone daily until Tuesday but there is a spot on the left area that it has harden like a tendon/cord almost, obviously uncomfortable. But nothing is swollen anymore it just starts to get harden like encapsulated after 2-3 days I drop the prednisone. I assuming is my body sending immune-cells to fight or cover the strange filler. Weird part is same doctor has applied small amounts of HA before under my eye bags and chin w minimal swelling, however my chin did get itchy for weeks so I guess it did have some reaction but nothing like this.

Man it looks good. Mine swelled up at times after I had way too much done - I think it was a drainage issue. And no hard chord like bumps but I did actually have what Bill at PhalloFILL said was a granuloma in a couple spots. So HA does have adverse reactions . Sorry you’re dealing with that . Has she tried to dissolve the hard “chord like” lump?
