Hey guys,

My son has a small one, really below average.
He\'s 8 years old, and it\'s like 4 cm Erect.
Flacid it\'s like 2,5-3 cm.
My other son is 2 years younger but has a much larger unit.

I think he has (or comes close to) a condition called micropenis (average length at that age is 6 cm +-0,9cm, so it\'s more then 2 standard deviations from the medium). I know, it may seem OK, but the contrast with children of his age is embarrassing to him, he doesn\'t want to go in the shower with them anymore.

I\'m quite worried about it; I always thought that part of having a small member is caused by a low testosteron production or sensitivity before and during puberty. I don\'t think he has a syndrome, he\'s just fine for the rest, although he\'s a bit less strong/active then most children his age. He\'s a sensitive boy, and has some concentration problems, but he\'s quite intelligent and social (and happy).

I know it\'s not uncommon to provide kids with this condition with a testosteron treatment, of course under doctor\'s supervision. I know the risks of this (ie. bone maturation) but they can be well contained by carefully checking the testosteron dosis.

Do any of you have experience with such treatments (yourself, family members, friends, ...) ?
Do they work ? What would you do in my place, would you wait with a possible treatment until he has reached puberty ?

I\'m going to see a specialist with him within some weeks, but any advice/second opinion/relevant experience would be really appreciated !

EDIT : have seen specialist, everything was perfectly OK...

I thought erections didn\'t come until later in life too SO. I thought they coincided with the onset of puberty. We learn something new everyday!

Didn\'t realize this - my ignorance must have stemmed from the fact that I never had such an experience as a kid. Thanks for the new-found knowledge.

ovw , try the fitness forums, they have a ton of experience on hormons in all stages.

I read some Danish fitness forums and these Guys are almost doctors if not even better than most doctors when it comes to hormons

Thanks for your replies. Of course I will downplay it, as a matter of fact it IS not that important (except if it really comes from a syndrome or malfuction). But if it\'s really something to worry about, I will help if necessary. First I will go to the doctor myself to ask what he thinks, maybe i\'m worrying for nothing, no need to take my son anywhere. I am aware of this because I have a relative who had a very late puberty, due to a lack of testosteron production. He was given a relatively high dosis during puberty (intramuscular injections). It worked, he\'s OK now in all ways. He\'ll never know of course what would have happend if he didn\'t get the testosteron injections, maybe puberty would have started anyway, be it later. I know of other people getting hormonal treatments to stop them from growing too tall. For young children, I think it\'s a bad idea, even under doctor\'s supervision. I just want to know if it\'s a standard procedure, what are the risks, and most of all, if any of you guys here have any knowledge about it. You don\'t find a lot of relevant information on the internet about this.

The size of one\'s penis depends on many many factors including but limited to genes form the dad and mom. There other \"things\" that can effect penis size both large and small. There is a gene that is turned on when baby is growing inside the mother and this gene will decide the final size. IF this gene is turned on for a longer period of time, the size will generally be bigger and vise verse.

don\'t we inherit our fathers penis size? I thought all men were born with what their father had....

Be ever so careful with this issue. Talk privately with his doctor about whether anything can be done, do everything you can to give him the best outcome possible, and never ever ever give him any indication that you have any awareness of it at all. As bad as my issues are, if I knew my father looked at me as small, I don\'t think I could have survived my teenage years.

I second the suggestion of downplaying concern over size in front of him, especially at his age. No need to plant seeds of insecurity. But certainly discuss any concerns with his doctor.

If I may first ask, is it normal for a child of that age to even obtain an Erection?... and if so, how did you obtain its measurements? I understand the concern but I hope you aren\'t taking your size obsession too far with this one. There is a fine line between having parental concerns and imposing your own size insecurities.

If there is genuine concern for micro penis, let a doctor draw those conclusions. Then seek out the appropriate treatment(s), but try not make it seem important, urgent, or dire to your child. You state he\'s happy, the last thing he needs is this sort of mind-fuck for the rest of his life (especially if he has no recourse past micro-condition).

After puberty, nothing can be done except risky surgery & injections... so go to a urologist or endocrinologist now, and you can probably figure something out. The key is to find the primary cause...which could be in a lot of different places in the endocrine system. So, to answer your question, I don\'t think there\'s a \"standard\" procedure until he\'s been evaluated for the primary cause.

Chances are, testosterone therapy will be effective in most cases - though I can\'t get the full articles because of paywalls: scholar.google.com/scholar?hl=en&q=treat..._sdt=1%2C14&as_sdtp=

I don\'t have the same feeling as the posters above regarding the parental thing. If my dad did something to figure out a way for me to have a normal dick, I would have no issues with that. In fact, the entire time I had Peyronie\'s disease, he used every connection he had to get me in w/ the best docs & treatments (and financially - this helped too since my insurance sucked at the time - he paid)...so it was fine. My mom.. on the other hand...constantly asking about it - was just gross and annoying - but she has no sense of boundaries. Of course, I am not 8...but at 8, you don\'t know anything about sex and the feeling of rejection from your penis size yet.

I know someone who had androgen insensitivity and thus micropenis (and sort of small \"boobs\" or whatever) - and he\'s not too healthy psychologically, and I think he\'s been single for his entire life... and in his 40s...though he is extremely successful and highly aggressive in the workplace (maybe it was overcompensation - but he does very well in that area!). Anyway, a micropenis is going to create a far bigger psychological problem than your dad taking you to the doctor & getting you T injections.
