TOPIC: Corticosteroids and antibiotics before PMMA?

Just curious what you guys think... when I had sinus surgery - i was given some heavy antibiotics and a medrol dosepack (2 of them actually). Some antibiotics (doxycyline in particular) help relieve inflammation as well, and the steroid would minimize swelling and stop any immediate allergic response (so, less huge penis swelling sadly - but probably better for the body to adapt to the new substance).

Maybe it\'s over...and it sounds like nobody here has done it (or does he give prophylactic antibiotics?) ... but just in my surgical experience, I\'ve always taken antibiotics - and once I took medrol. So, I thought it might be a good idea.

Of course, the major downside of steroids is lowered immunity... hence the antibiotics... but still, there are other infections one can get.

Don\'t bother. Antibiotics are prescribed by Dr. Casavantes and you\'ll take one the day of the procedure. As far as reducing inflammation, this is a natural response and invokes healing. Let nature take its course. I have found that pre-op, topical Arnica Montana gel works wonders to minimize post-op bruising. Also, once entry points have closed, use of the gel eliminated all of my bruising (I was bruised really bad as Dr. C was very aggressive in breaking up hard spots) in three days flat.

Oh, that\'s good. Did he break up the hard spots the next day? Or, do you mean this was a later session down the line? They told me just to stay over 1 night and I don\'t really have to come back the second day unless there\'s a problem. Then, I can just go home. He said people come back if they stay in TJ but if they stay in SD they usually don\'t bother. I think I am staying in SD.

They/It was broken up the day of the procedure. I HIGHLY recommend staying at least 1 day postoperative. If you do have issues, a quick trip to the doc or to see Wade is well worth the investment in money and time. The first 48 hours post-op are crucial.
