TOPIC: Post Operative Issues: Prevention and Treatment

This thread has been created to discuss the various issues surrounding PE surgery including but not limited to swelling, stretching, sanitary care, sexual abstinence delays, useful supplements or treatments, medical follow-up and examination of imperfections needing to be brought to a physician\'s attention.
I will kick off the thread with an initial topic which is that of swelling. I noticed that many here who received PMMA injections, and the same presumably holds true for other forms of Phalloplasty, had a week or longer period of significant fluid build-up and swelling. Furthermore quite a few also had serious bruising and black and blue marks.
This is why I wondered whether the method used by plastic surgeons practicing rhinoplasty (nose surgery) might also be used for Phalloplasty? Patients are given either a steroid injection locally, or an oral regimen of steroid pills such as Prednisone or Decadron (generic name: Dexamethasone). For if this helps significantly reduce swelling it could improve recovery from PMMA injections and possibly positively impact the media distribution thanks to less bloating? If any here have discussed this with Dr Casavantes please let us know.

I spoke to Wade, and he said that certain issues (that don\'t worsen and have no pain, similar to E.P.\'s situation) can take months to resolve but shouldn\'t be a problem as far as they know.

Regarding preoperative treatments to prevent or reduce post-operative complaints the use of arnica montana in small sugar grains containing tiny homeopathic doses (I believe one is to take several as a dose). It is routinely prescribed to rhinoplasty patients before their nose surgery to prevent excessive bruising around the eyes and reduce swelling. There is also an arnica cream which helps combat swelling in places one has received a blow, however it would be good to ensure first that the topical use of said ointment does not interfere with body fillers or the ensuing collagen buildup.

Regarding Arnica

I can vouch for it\'s effectiveness. It really does reduce bruising and swelling. I was hit by a baseball (hit by a 14 year old) from 25 feet away. It was hit hard and I knew I would get a bruise on my right arm tricep area. Arnica is used quite a bit in the youth baseball world and so for the first time I used some. Turns out I didn\'t cover the entire trauma area. Next day I had almost no bruising where Arnica applied, and deep blue/black bruise where I missed with Arnica. Also, none of soreness/pain normally associated with significant bruises.

I don\'t know how it works, but I can tell you I am sold on it. Worked great for me and I plan to have some in my medicine cabinet at all times. Will it work applied before adn after a procedure? I don\'t know. I do know it seems to work for baseball bruises for young and old.

This thread is about all post-operative ailments and not just PMMA, although at the present date we will probably find a lot more attention about PMMA given that it has become a prime focus of this forum and also because at present aside from Brazil it is only provided by Dr C in Tijuana who is busier practicing due to high demand than designing sophisticated or streamlined post-operative accompanyment. Not that he or Nurse Wade will leave anyone in the lurch.

I had Fraxel laser in very intense burns Thursday and was given by my Dermatologist a very cool and effective cortizone cream sold in France under the brand name Dermoval 0.05% cream the active ingredient being Clobetasol Propionate. He gave me this after I showed him a picture of my face after the first treatment where it had swollen huge.
He also had me alternate with an antibiotic cream called Fucidine 2% which is Sodium Fucidine he said must be used because the cortizone in the other cream would open up a possibility of infection due to the skin cuts from the laser. As a result I had ZERO swelling, incredible. To be however quite truthful, I also as a precautionary measure took a number of Arnica Montana beads, morning, afternoon and evening prior to my laser intervention and also rubbed arnica cream on my face prior to the procedure.
A met a plastic surgeon the other day specialized in Rhinoplasty and he has his anesthesiologist administer cortizone during surgery, preventing the terrible swelling usually produced by open nose surgery on thick skinned patients. So it is possible to manage some of the post-operative symptoms and ailments in any number of surgeries. If I undergo another treatment I will use what I have leftover from that procedure.
