Hi does anyone know (I’m sure it’s been discussed somewhere here) what differences there are between the HA fillers - I’m only interested in HA fillers.

Currently a clinic I’m looking at using offers

perfecta Subskin
Juvederm Voluma
Teosyal Ultra deep
Elanse (I believe this maybe the other type of filler that can be more complicated)

Does anyone know the differences and if the more premium HA filler is worth the price?

Many thanks!

There are an abundance of Hyaluronic Acid (HA) iterations, many of them are cross-linked for soft tissue filler of the face, while others may require a more robust cross-linking in higher volume injections.

As for the fillers you asked about:

Perfecta Subskin -- Haven't heard of it.

Juvederm Voluma -- one of the most Popular Brands.

Teosyal Ultra deep -- I believe this is a popular brand abroad (this Board is International but most topics pertain to American materials)

Ellanse -- this is not HA. It is considered a long-term temporary filler that works more like PMMA than HA.

Do different HA fillers have more volume them others. As same ml’s but are ‘thicker’, which increase volume more than others? I read this on a clinics website, saying that Voluma has a thicker consistency so gives more volume than their cheaper version so you need less ml’s. Is this true?

Different HA fillers do result in different ultimate volumes, but this has less to do with their thickness (G′) and more to do with their hydrophilicity—their ability to absorb water after injection.

All HA fillers are hydrophilic, but some absorb significantly more water than others. Think of them like sponges: the more hydrophilic the filler, the more volume expansion you’ll get post-injection. Interestingly, thicker fillers with higher G′ generally have lower water uptake, while softer fillers tend to absorb more water and thus result in greater apparent volume over time.

Examples of water uptake:

Filler Max. Water Uptake (%)
Juvederm Ultra Plus ≈ 515 %
Restylane Refyne ≈ 516 %
Juvederm Voluma ≈ 227 %
Restylane Lyft/SubQ < 100 %

Clinical relevance:
• I typically tell patients that Voluma results in a ~15 to 25% increase in volume over the first 2–3 weeks as it hydrates.
• While Voluma may give less visible volume compared to some of the “cheaper,” softer fillers, you still get more than what was physically injected.
• The advantage of using Voluma is not the expansion—it’s the longevity. Voluma has excellent firmness (high G′) and typically lasts almost twice as long as most other HA fillers.

Bottom line:
Equal syringe volumes do not yield equal clinical volume. Choose your filler based on the desired firmness and duration of effect, not just cost or initial volume.

Thank you for your detailed reply Doc. Androfill offer another HA called Teoxane Ultra deep. How does this compare to Voluma in that regard as you didn’t mention them in your list?

Thanks John
